Highlights from the IFA and IBC: Awards, connections and more

Highlights from the IFA and IBC: Awards, connections and more for ai|coustics

It’s been a busy September for the ai|coustics team, with two conferences to kickstart autumn. Over the past few weeks, members of the ai|coustics team went to IFA (or the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, one of the oldest industrial exhibitions in Germany) and IBC (the International Broadcasting Convention) in Amsterdam. It was an exciting time — meeting others in our field, sharing the results of our speech enhancement technology with a mobile booth, and even winning an award!

We were pleased to be returning for our second appearance at both IFA and IBC. It was our first return since our successful funding round, which made it a great opportunity to share our growth since then with our industry.

No fear of FOMO: we have all the news you missed, right here.

Best in show for IBC in the Red Tech 2024 Awards

We were delighted to be recognized amongst so many amazing companies with a Best in Show Award from Red Tech after the IBC.

The Red Tech Awards judged based on “market relevance, design, business benefits, operational benefits, innovation, technical excellence and cost-effectiveness”, and it’s an honor to win based on our technical innovation and product excellence. We’d like to thank Red Tech News and the jury for selecting us.

Standing out at the IFA

We had a blast at the IFA, which was celebrating its 100th birthday this year. The innovation and excitement were truly on show: our stall in the IFA Next Hall was between a flying car and a robot!

We brought our live demo, so that people could experience the ‘wow’ moment of AI audio enhancement for themselves.

And we were really pleased to be recognized by a tech.eu article highlighting European start-ups making an impact at the IFA. We’re especially appreciative that the writer kept an eye out for sustainability and social impact: two key elements in our mission.

Want to see us in action? Check out the video below: Simran is using one of the great DJI mics, but even that mic has trouble with the exciting, noisy atmosphere at IFA. Add some ai|coustics to the mix… and everything changes.

IBC shows huge potential for AI in broadcasting

Back to Amsterdam, where one thing was increasingly clear throughout the three days of the IBC: there is so much potential for AI to do great things in the broadcasting sphere. Whether it’s accelerating audio workflows, solving problem audio in near-real time, or working to preserve the power and impact of real human voices, AI and broadcasting are a natural fit.

We were thrilled to speak to so many broadcasters and other people working in the space. We offered a space for conference attendees to test the power and potential of AI-enhanced audio, and were really pleased with the feedback we received.

Fixing the audio input for voice agents

Voice agents are revolutionising the way we interact with technology – but they can only perform as well as the audio they receive. These systems are built on a complex stack: voice capture, speech recognition (ASR), reasoning (LLMs) and text-to-speech (TTS). While each layer has improved dramatically, one foundational element remains critically underserved and has the potential to break the
