The future of post-production audio enhancement technology

Benedict Mende, one of Blueberry Media’s founders, discovered ai-coustics at a trade fair and hoped the AI tool might be the missing piece Blueberry Media had been searching for. 

Back in the production studio, Benedict put ai-coustics to the test. He uploaded an old short audio file with poor quality unfit for use in his film. ai-coustics’ effect was transformative, leading Benedict to integrate ai-coustics into Blueberry Media’s production workflow and significantly enhance their projects.

“I love exploring new technologies in audio and video production, and I was particularly excited about ai-coustics when I first heard about it at the trade show. I can now tell you: it quickly became my favorite tool discovered there,” Benedict said. 

Tackling audio challenges with ai-coustics

Benedict shared several cases where ai|coustics made a major impact: 

1. Inconsistent audio quality: Blueberry Media works on a wide range of films and videos with artists of all skill levels. Whether collaborating with seasoned professionals or young newcomers, the team struggles in achieving consistent studio-quality audio. In one project, inexperienced crew members handled sound and audio mixing for the first time, resulting in poor-quality audio that was unfit for use in the film.

“Most people will watch a video with low-quality visuals, but they won’t tolerate poor audio,” Benedict explained. Now, Benedict uses ai-coustics to ensure clear, crisp audio across every project. 

2. Removing background noise: Benedict’s team faced similar problems in another project with their weekly one-minute movie review series, ‘Die Blueberry Sneak,’ which they publish on TikTok and YouTube Shorts. So far, they’ve shot 70+ of these reviews, often using phone microphones and filming in various conditions. Because the project is designed to be quick and low-production, the reviews are typically recorded outdoors in the evenings with minimal natural light. Kiel’s windy weather and background noise from seagulls further complicate the situation. Too often, Benedict discovered while editing that the audio quality was so poor it was barely audible. Processing the audio with ai-coustics made Benedict notice a significant change.

3. Misaligned microphones/faulty equipment settings: Another typical challenge featured an interview with a brand-new wireless leveling system from a well-known brand. Trusting the brand’s reputation, the crew didn’t perform a soundcheck. During the interview, both the interviewer’s and the interviewee’s microphones ended up mixed into a single mono line, causing the interviewee’s speech to mix with the interviewer’s breathing.  

Benedict turned to ai-coustics to clean up the audio, effectively removing the breathing noise. He said, “It took the sound quality from annoying to watch to a nice interview.”

Implementing ai-coustics into Blueberry Media’s workflows was seamless. Benedict described the tool as user-friendly and efficient. ai-coustics’ results enhanced and elevated the quality of Blueberry Media’s output, helping them build trust both with the platform itself as well as an audience who kept coming back. 

“I always use the enhancement level slider to enhance the audio in my videos to 100% on ai-coustics. The 100% audio enhancement results from ai-coustics are way better than my audio editing software,” Benedict said.
